One of each: Samuel Riedo

For the second edition of One of Each, I have asked a familiar face to the blog, Samuel Riedo, to tell us which single, EP, album, music video and live session he has been enjoying lately. As someone who is very active on the music scene in a variety of different genres, he seemed to be the ideal candidate for this article.

Lately, his solo project, Gans Sauvage dropped their second EP, Guin Sauvage, a great live follow-up to 4-Gans-Menü, and was interviewed earlier this year about it. Samuel will also be releasing a new album, Terre Brûlée (English: scorched Earth) with the band, Hook, Line and Sinker in November and he plays guitar in Jean-Michel, an improvised punk band with probably more than a hundred songs. Lastly, he is the newest member of Darius, having joined the band after Murmuration, and his quote about the “status quo” in the interview about the album somehow got stuck in my head and makes me chuckle.

Shortly after receiving the recommendations, I went ahead and checked out the ones that I didn’t know already and am already a big fan of the choices. One of the aims of the blog is to find and discover new music, and I’m always open to hear new suggestions and am happy to share them. I hope you enjoy this type of article and thanks to Samuel for his contribution!

Single/song: Eckhart - Post-Cum Depression I (Embrace Me Like A Broken Toy)

I listen to this on repeat and obsessively since last may. The sounds, the build-up, the lyrics, everything is there to linger after you've heard the song. Most of all I'm stuck with the catchy and almost haunting climax (no pun intended).

EP: Red Kunz - Teeth, Hair & Skin (Bandcamp)

Such a hard-hitting one-shot. Two drums & two basses, I didn't know that was allowed. Red Fang and half of Coilguns (or Kunz) is a wild but also tight mix

Album: Lord Kesseli & The Drums - I Was In Love (Bandcamp)

For me the best album from 2024 and such a great live duo. Songwriting, sounds and lyrics are so well chosen and captivating. Make it mandatory to listen to Lord Kesseli in primary school instead of Plüsch.

Music Video: Crème Solaire - Chien.ne (from the album, Cemento; Bandcamp)

Most wtf video from the most exciting electro punk duo and I also like dogs.

Live session on YouTube: Puts Marie - Cicciolina and The Clerks (from the album, Pigeons, Politicians & Pin-Ups During the Endtime of Mankind; Bandcamp)

Just a masterpiece and the evidence that Puts Marie sounds even better live than on vinyl (which is crazy).

Honourable mentions:

  • Earthians from Coilguns (from the album, Commuters) - my favourite riff,

  • Volcan by Elie Zoé (from the album, Hello Future Me) - no guitar can sound this heavy live,

  • Chimère from Berceuses (from the self-titled album, Berceuses) - who is cutting onions?

  • Carol from wolfer (from the album, Hey Lester!) - my favourite sad summer hit,

  • generally everything that Vincent Sudan mixes live, and

  • the whole discography from Fomies
